European trip
Planning your first European trip can be overwhelming, so it’s important to make your research ahead of time. With a good plan, you can travel smarter and cheaper and be less anxious about things going wrong. Here’s a list of things to consider before embarking on your first European trip.
1. Don’t over plan
We understand that you want to see as much as you can during your first European trip, but it’s important to make your plans accordingly and try not to fit everything into a single trip. Remember that it’s better to make the most of one city than spending your vacation in transit. Besides, there’s a good chance that overloading your days with activities can affect your body badly. Remember to take adequate rest during your trip!
2. Don’t skip “cliché” tourist attractions
We’ve all seen so many places like the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben on social media, but don’t skip them just because everyone else is going there. Some popular landmarks are popular for a reason, and you definitely don’t want to miss out on a snap at the iconic canal when you’re in Amsterdam. Experiencing these places on your own is also important for your first European trip!
3. Don’t visit only the popular sites
That being said, remember to not just visit the popular tourist sites and fall into tourist traps during your European trip! Go off the beaten path and experience the things only locals know to have a better glimpse of the culture of the country. Make it a point to look up the hidden gems each country you’re visiting has to offer and hit up the places often overlooked by tourists.
4. Pack light
If you’re planning to visit more than one country during your European trip, we recommend that you pack as light as possible so you don’t end up lugging your heavy suitcase around. Some hotels and train stations in Europe don’t actually have elevators, and some countries like the Netherlands are known to have traditionally steep stairs. Carefully plan what you want to bring and the necessary items to pack ahead of your trip.
5. Make reservations in advance
Don’t risk missing out on the attractions that you’ve really wanted to go to, or worse, accommodations just because you didn’t make your reservations ahead of time! Make sure to buy your tickets in advance especially during peak season. This is a smart way to be organized and make sure that your trip goes smoothly without any hiccups. Besides, you don’t want to end up with less money to spend during your European trip just because you miscalculated your budget!
